Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance isn’t the same as Third Party Property Damage. It’s a mandatory policy that generally covers anyone who drives your vehicle (including yourself) for injuries caused to others in an at-fault motor accident.

Agreed and market value determine how much you get if your car is written off – but one gives you more control over your payout. Learn what’s right for you.

Third party property damage insurance covers damage you cause to others’ property but not your own car – so it might be more suitable for older or low-value vehicles.

If you want cover for damage to your own car, only comprehensive car insurance can cover you. Our Comprehensive Essentials covers this too.

Insurers differ because their levels of cover vary and they use their own methods to assess risk. This means your car insurance quotes might vary widely between insurers, even for the same car and driver.

With Allianz Comprehensive Car Insurance, you can choose your own repairer.2

You’ll be assigned an Allianz allocated repairer with our Comprehensive Essentials policy.

You won’t have either option with Third Party Property Damage Insurance because it doesn’t cover damage to your own car. Many insurers may not allow you to choose your own repairer, so make sure you do your research before deciding on who’s right for you.

  1. If your car is written off within 2 years of its manufacture, you can choose for us to pay you the agreed value or to have your new car replaced with one of the same make and model where available in Australia.

  2. If you choose your own repairer, we may need a second quote from another repairer chosen by us just to make sure the quote you've received is reasonable. We may then authorise repairs, pay you reasonable repair costs or the car’s agreed value or replace your new car where policy conditions are met.

  3. Market value means the cost to replace your car with a car of the same make, model, age and condition as your vehicle immediately prior to the loss or damage. This excludes costs and charges for registration, CTP insurance, stamp duty transfer, dealer warranty costs, transfer fees, and dealer delivery. See the PDS for more information.

  4. We'll arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car after a covered collision where you are not at fault and have provided us with the at fault person's details. You’ll get a rental car for a maximum of up to 30 days. This benefit will end earlier if your car is repaired and returned to you, we pay you the cost of repairs, or we settle your claim as a total loss. If a rental car of a similar size and type (e.g. medium SUV) to your car is not available, we will pay you a travel allowance of $80 a day for as long as we would have given you a rental car. See the PDS for more details.

  5. If you choose this option, we will arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car for as long as it takes to either fix your car, pay you the cost of repairs, or determine if your car is a total loss. This will apply after any covered incident, no matter who is at fault. If a rental car of a similar size and type (e.g. medium SUV) to your car is not available, we will pay you a travel allowance of $80 a day for as long as we would have given you a rental car. See the PDS for more details.
