Allianz Critical Illness cover
Sometimes even the healthiest people are diagnosed with serious illnesses. Critical Illness (also known as Trauma Insurance) can be added onto your Allianz Life Insurance cover.1
The benefit pays a lump sum benefit if you suffer from one of the 14 defined Critical Illnesses and may help relieve your financial burden at a very stressful time.
If your claim is accepted, Critical Illness benefits are paid regardless of your ability to work. The funds can be used for any purpose you choose – for example to seek specialist or alternative medical treatment, to pay down your debts, or make lifestyle changes such as reducing your working hours.
Your cover continues until the policy anniversary after your 70th birthday, as long as your premiums are paid when due.

How much cover can you get?
When you apply to add Critical Illness cover
- If you are aged 16-55, the minimum Cover Amount is $50,000 and you can get up to $500,000 cover
- You must also apply for Life cover
- Your Critical Illness cover amount can’t be more than the Life Cover Amount
How does a Critical Illness claim impact the rest of your life insurance coverage?
Combination of Cover
Any payment for Critical Illness cover will reduce any other covers by that payment amount. If a payment made under the Critical Illness cover reduces any other cover amount to $0, then that cover will cease for the Life Insured.
Life cover Buy Back
If Critical Illness cover is paid in full, we may reinstate the reduced Life Cover Amount that was reduced because of the Critical Illness payment after a 12-month waiting period. Critical Illness cover and Permanently Unable to Work cover won’t be reinstated as part of the Life cover Buy Back feature. This feature can be activated once, on the first eligible claim.

Permanently Unable to Work cover (optional add-on)
Also known as Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) cover, this optional add on to Life Cover pays you a lump sum if you’re no longer able to work solely because of sickness or injury, or suffer a Major Physical Impairment, helping to reduce the financial impact of not being able to work.4,5

Critical Illness cover
Critical Illnesses covered under this product are certain types of Vascular Disease, Cardiac Surgery, Cancer of specified severity, Degenerative Diseases, and Major Organ Failure. Each Critical Illness has a specific definition as outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement.
We will not pay a Critical Illness benefit where the Critical Illness is intentionally self-inflicted.

90-day exclusion period
A 90-day exclusion period applies. We won’t pay a benefit if the insured event occurs, is first diagnosed, the symptoms leading to the diagnosis become apparent, or the recommendation for surgery is made within 90 days of:
- the commencement of the benefit;
- any increase in the benefit (but only in respect of the increase); or
- the reinstatement date where we have agreed to reinstate the benefit after it has lapsed.
If one of these conditions or events occurs again after the 90-day exclusion period and is not related to the first occurrence, a new claim can be lodged for that occurrence.

Life cover and Terminal Illness
A Terminal Illness means a Sickness which is likely to result in your death within 24 months. This requires the written opinion of a Specialist supported by reasonable medical evidence in relation to your life expectancy.

Permanently Unable to Work cover
Provides cover if:
- a) you suffer a defined Major Physical Impairment due to Sickness or Injury, or
- b) you have solely because of Sickness or Injury:
- been continuously unable to work for a period of at least 90 consecutive days; and
- are unlikely ever to work again in any occupation for which you are suited based on your work experience, education and any training you’ve had.
To apply for Permanently Unable to Work cover you must be working on a permanent basis in an eligible occupation type for at least 20 hours per week. We won’t pay a Permanently Unable to Work benefit where the condition is intentionally self-inflicted.

Cover Amounts, combination of cover and Life cover Buy Back
Maximum cover amounts apply and are dependent on your age at the time of application. The Critical Illness cover amount and Permanently Unable to Work cover amount can’t exceed the Life cover amount. The minimum cover amount for Critical Illness cover is $50,000, and $100,000 for Life cover and Permanently Unable to Work cover. The total amount payable under a policy is the Life cover amount listed on the Policy Schedule. Other conditions apply.
Policies must include Life cover; taking a combination of cover you can also apply to add Critical Illness cover and Permanently Unable to Work cover. If we make a full Life cover payment in the event of death or Terminal Illness, then the Life Insured’s policy will cease. Any payment for Critical Illness cover or Permanently Unable to Work cover will reduce any other covers by that payment amount. If a payment made under the Critical Illness cover or Permanently Unable to Work cover reduces any other cover amount to $0, then that cover will cease for the Life Insured.
If Critical Illness cover or Permanently Unable to Work cover is paid in full, we may reinstate the Life Cover Amount that was reduced as a result of the Critical Illness or Permanently Unable to Work payment after a 12-month waiting period. Critical Illness cover and Permanently Unable to Work cover won’t be reinstated as part of the Life cover Buy Back feature. This feature is not included in policies purchased on a PDS with a preparation date prior to 12 December 2012.
