But if you get injured overseas, medical treatment can be costly. It’s smart to think about what activities you’ll do before you buy travel insurance.

Our optional Adventure Pack provides cover for a range of more adventure activities and sports that aren’t automatically covered by a standard policy.1, 2

With our Comprehensive, Domestic and Multi-Trip plans, eligible customers can choose to add an Adventure Pack for an additional premium.

Our Adventure Pack provides cover for your participation in the adventure activities listed below. Keep in mind that not every situation is covered. Please read the Product Disclosure Statement carefully so you understand what’s included and the limits that apply.

To buy this optional pack, you must be under 75 years when your Certificate of Insurance is issued.

What we cover

  • Land activities
  • Outdoor rock climbing (with ropes and appropriate safety gear)
  • Abseiling
  • Caving/potholing
  • Flying fox/zip lining
  • Tandem parachuting, tandem sky diving, tandem hang gliding, tandem gliding and tandem paragliding (but you must be in tandem with a licensed instructor for these activities)
  • Hiking, trekking, or tramping, peaking at altitudes from 3,000 metres up to 6,000 metres, where specialist climbing equipment is not required
  • Expeditions to or on the Kokoda Track/Trail
  • Battle re-enactment (but not with firearms)
  • Motorised activities
  • Motorcycles, mopeds, or motorised scooters - including as the driver or as a pillion passenger
  • Quad bike riding (but only single rider)

Please note

Even if you add an Adventure Pack, you're only covered if:

  • you have a valid Australian driver's licence (excluding a learner's licence) for the vehicle you’re driving. Or have a licence valid for the country you’re riding in, if your Australian licence is not recognised in that country;
  • if you're a passenger on a motorcycle, moped, or motorised scooter, the driver must have a valid license for that vehicle and country. You may still be covered if you didn't know the driver was unlicensed, as long as no other exclusions apply to your claim;
  • you’re driving a quad bike without a passenger. There’s no cover if you're a passenger on a quad bike;
  • you always wear an appropriate safety helmet;
  • you’re not participating in a race or riding a motorcycle, moped, motorised scooter or quad bike in a professional capacity.
  • Water activities
  • Surface water activities in rivers or rapids graded IV or V under the International Scale of River Difficulty
  • Cave/river tubing
  • Deep sea fishing
  • Sailing from 11 to 15 nautical miles from land
  • Diving underwater using an artificial breathing apparatus at a depth no greater than 30 metres (to be covered for this activity, you must hold an open water diving licence recognised in Australia or dive with an instructor licensed for these activities. Please note, restrictions apply, refer to General Exclusions, ‘Activities’ and ‘Diving alone’, in the Product Disclosure Statement)
  • Sport activities
  • Contact sports (including any form of rugby, Australian Rules football or American football)
  • Martial arts
  • Shooting (moving target e.g. clay pigeon), but not hunting
  • Animal activities
  • Animal conservation and handling (under appropriate supervision)

  • Permanent Disability or Personal Liability claims that arise from your participation in adventure activities
  • Competing in a professional capacity
  • Riding as a passenger on a quad bike

You're not covered while riding on a motorcycle, moped, motorised scooter, or quad bike if:

  • you don't have the right type of Australian driver's licence (including a learner's licence) for the vehicle you’re driving. Or have a licence valid for the country you’re riding in.
  • you're a passenger on a motorcycle, moped, motorised scooter and the driver doesn't have a valid licence for that vehicle or country. Unless you didn't know the driver was unlicenced.
  • you're driving with a passenger or you're a passenger on a quad bike.
  • you're not wearing a helmet.

Allianz Travel Insurance automatically covers you to participate in some activities. You can refer to Activities Included in the Product in the Product Disclosure Statement for a list of activities that are already included with your plan.

If your travel arrangements include an activity not listed in this section, you should check the activity is listed under the Adventure Pack and consider purchasing our optional Adventure Pack for an additional premium.1

To be eligible to purchase an Adventure Pack you must be under 75 years at the time your policy is issued. An Adventure Pack is only available for purchase with a Comprehensive, Multi Trip or Domestic plan.

An Adventure Pack has an additional excess of $500 in addition to your chosen base excess. This amount can't be changed or removed. The excess is applicable where a claim is made under Overseas Medical & Hospital Expenses or Cancellation Benefits and the claim arises from your participation in an adventure activity.
