What is General Property Insurance?

General Property Insurance covers you for the cost of repairing or replacing certain property insured, such as your portable tools or equipment, that is accidentally lost or damaged in any location worldwide (unless otherwise noted). General Property Insurance is available as part of our Business Insurance Pack only, not as a standalone product.

We understand that not having your tools or equipment could result in you not being able to work, which could affect your cash flow, while also leaving you out of pocket. General Property Insurance helps by ensuring accidentally lost or damaged tools or equipment are repaired or replaced as soon as possible, allowing you to continue operating.

Pay by the month at no extra cost1.  You can pay monthly or annually at no extra cost to suit your cash flow.

What our General Property Insurance covers

Whether you’ve accidentally damaged a tool or had a piece of equipment stolen through a  break-in, our General Property Insurance cover can help you get it repaired or replaced.
What’s covered

  • Accidental damage to your portable tools and equipment
  • Covers unspecified property for up to $2,500, per item and up to the sum insured for all items combined, including tools of trade, business contents and stock. Property is covered at or away from your business premises.
  • If you want to cover items for more than $2,500, they can be listed on the schedule as specified items. Computer equipment, photographic equipment and mobile phones have to be listed as specified items to be covered irrespective of their value.
  • Theft of property in your care

    Up to $2000 cover for theft or attempted theft of property in the care of your business resulting from forcible and violent entry, by armed hold-up, or following assault, violence (or threat of immediate assault or violence) to you, your employees or your customers.

  • Certain types of accidental damage

    Damage caused by general wear and tear, data processing failure, computer viruses, vermin, mould, mildew, or flood. Items damaged from being left in the open air.
  • Theft in the open air

    Theft of property that’s located in the open air, under an open-sided structure, under a carport, on a patio, or verandah.
  • Consequential loss

    Any loss of earning capacity, loss of use or other consequential financial losses related to insured damage under the General Property cover. For example, if your revenue is reduced due to damage to an item insured under General Property, you won’t be insured for the loss of revenue under this cover.
  • Certain types of property

    Money, glass, jewellery, sporting equipment, works of art, trailers, caravans, livestock and animals are just a few of the types of property we don’t cover. For the full list please see the PDS.
  • Motor vehicles

    Any type of cover for motor vehicles including ride on mowers, trailers and caravans.
