If you're moving to Victoria, you’ll need to sort:

  • Car registration
  • Transfer your driver’s license and car registration within six months of moving to Victoria. Check if your car requires a roadworthy certificate for the registration transfer.
  • Transport Accident Charge
  • In Victoria, Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is automatically included in your registration fee. It’s called the Transport Accident Charge (TAC).
  • Car Insurance
  • Review your car insurance to ensure it’s valid in Victoria. If you have a policy with Allianz, simply let us know you’ve moved.

If you’re an existing Allianz Car Insurance customer, your cover might be different. To check what’s included, head to our policy documents. It breaks policies down by date, so it’s easy to find the one that applies to you.

Car insurance, such as third party property damage and comprehensive car insurance, isn’t mandatory.

However, the Transport Accident Charge (or Compulsory Third Party insurance) is mandatory in Victoria. It’s technically not car insurance though. Unlike in some states, such as NSW, it’s included as part of the car registration process.

Hail damage is sometimes covered under comprehensive car insurance policies in Victoria, but it’s important to check your specific policy details. Allianz Comprehensive Car Insurance covers hail damage.

Flood damage is typically covered with comprehensive car insurance policies in Victoria, but it’s important to check your specific policy details. Allianz Comprehensive Car Insurance and Comprehensive Essentials covers flood damage.

You can potentially lower your car insurance premium by:

  1. Selecting the right level of cover for you. If you own an older vehicle, then Third Party Car Insurance may be enough for you. It only covers the cost of accidentally damaging someone else’s car or property. However, if you want cover for your own car or you couldn’t afford to replace it if it was written off, Comprehensive Car Insurance or Comprehensive Essentials may be a better option.
  2. Increasing your excess. By increasing your excess, within a given range, you can lower your premium. Keep in mind that you need to pay the excess you’ve selected if you make a claim. You can only do this for Comprehensive Car Insurance.
  3. Reducing the amount you drive. We ask you how many kilometres you estimate you’ll drive in a year. The cost of car insurance is typically lower the less you drive. If you live in a major city like Melbourne and don’t use your car much, this can be an easy way to lower costs.

  1. Premiums payable by instalments may be subject to minor adjustments (upwards or downwards) due to rounding. Financial institution transaction fees may apply.
  2. If you choose your own repairer, we may need a second quote from another repairer chosen by us just to make sure the quote you've received is reasonable. We may then authorise repairs, pay you reasonable repair costs or the car’s agreed value or replace your new car where policy conditions are met.
  3. We'll arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car after a covered collision where you are not at fault and have provided us with the at fault person's details. You’ll get a rental car for a maximum of up to 30 days. This benefit will end earlier if your car is repaired and returned to you, we pay you the cost of repairs, or we settle your claim as a total loss. If a rental car of a similar size and type (e.g. medium SUV) to your car is not available, we will pay you a travel allowance of $80 a day for as long as we would have given you a rental car. See the PDS for more details.

  4. If your new car is stolen or written off, you can choose for us to pay you the agreed value or to have your new car replaced with one of the same make and model where available in Australia.
  5. Cover for personal belongings if damaged or stolen after a covered incident, except if car is left unlocked when belongings are stolen or damaged and the car isn’t damaged or stolen. Excludes cash, credit cards, cheques, firearms, tools or other items related to a business.
  6. From the day you sell your car, or give it away and replace it with another one, we’ll provide temporary cover for your replacement car under your existing car insurance policy for up to 14 days.
  7. Removal of excess for one full windscreen, window glass or sun roof replacement and two repairs in each period of insurance.
  8. If you choose this option, we will arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car for as long as it takes to either fix your car, pay you the cost of repairs, or determine if your car is a total loss. This will apply after any covered incident, no matter who is at fault. If a rental car of a similar size and type (e.g. medium SUV) to your car is not available, we will pay you a travel allowance of $80 a day for as long as we would have given you a rental car. See the PDS for more details.
  9. Roadside Assistance is provided by AWP Australia Pty Ltd ABN 52 097 227 177. Service area limits, entitlement limits, exclusions and terms and conditions apply. For full details, read the terms and conditions.
