Allianz wins Excellence and Innovation in Injury Management Award

Allianz is proud to win the Excellence and Innovation in Injury Management Award at the inaugural 2015 Care and Service Excellence (CASE) Awards for its innovative
approach to managing psychological injuries.

The awards, hosted by the NSW Government’s iCare organisation, recognised outstanding service, performance and innovation in the Workers Compensation Scheme overseen by iCare.

Allianz undertook an in-depth analysis of the inherent differences between psychological and physical claims with respect to their duration, risk factors, treatment needs and industrial influence. Based on the insights gained, Allianz developed an innovative claims management model that included the establishment of a specialist claims team and Psychological Injury Management Framework to manage primary and secondary psychological injuries.

The new claims management model includes the early identification of secondary psychological symptoms and best practice treatments and strategies to promote return to work. The model is unique to the insurance industry and has resulted in improved processes, training and communication techniques. This has resulted in significant improvement in Return to Work (RTW) results, for example, the 26 week RTW measure improved by more than five days over the 18-month period since February 2014.

Commenting on Allianz’s win, General Manager NSW Workers Compensation, Mike Siomiak “the psychological management work undertaken by our NSW Managed Fund business has seen significant improvements in return to work outcomes that have benefited workers and their employers,” he said.

“The new model puts the worker at the centre of the claim, which encourages greater empathy between the claimant and the case manager. This has allowed us to understand how a worker may respond in different contexts and to ultimately work with them to achieve the shared goal of improved return to health and work,” he said.

Allianz was also recognised, with highly commended awards, in the Outstanding Contribution by an Individual and Outstanding New Starter categories. “The awards ceremony really highlighted the care, service and empathy delivered by all NSW agents every day,” according to Mike.

“The excellence and innovation award, and highly commendable recognition of our employees in other categories, reaffirms Allianz’s unrelenting commitment to improving the lives of injured workers,” Mike concluded.
