Allianz Contents Insurance is designed for homeowners who only want cover for their contents – for example, if you own an apartment or strata unit and don’t need Building Insurance.

If you don’t own your home and are renting, check out our Renter Insurance policy instead.

Our Contents Insurance covers the cost of loss or damage to your contents at home. This includes your furniture, white goods, rugs, electrical appliances, clothes, linen, and more. You can cancel anytime with no cancellation fees.3

We’ll pay up to $20 million if you’re found liable to pay compensation to someone because you’ve accidentally injured them or damaged their property.

This is a summary only of some of the features and benefits available on Allianz Contents Insurance, as well as some of the exclusions. Before deciding on a policy, carefully consider the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Supplementary PDS (where applicable) which set out the standard terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions.

Not sure how much it would cost to replace your belongings? Our calculator can help you get a clearer estimate.

Consider adding these optional benefits to your policy for an additional premium and greater coverage.

Covers the cost of replacing your portable items if they’re stolen or damaged. Portable items include wallets, glasses, jewellery, cameras, and mobile phones.

Covers electrical current damages to your home’s electrical motors, such as your fridge or freezer, if they’re under 10 years old.

Covers you for accidental damage caused by sudden, unforeseen, and unintended events, not just the specified insured events.

Covers up to $50,000 in loss or damage to your general contents while they’re in a commercial storage facility. Certain limits apply.

If you pay strata fees and live in a unit or apartment, you usually don’t need separate building insurance, unless your owners corporation says otherwise. Strata insurance generally covers the main building structure, such as the external walls, roof and shared areas.

However, it doesn’t cover everything inside your unit. That’s where Allianz Contents Insurance can help. It can cover loss or damage to your personal belongings, as well as certain fixed fixtures and fittings inside your unit that you own or are responsible for, and that aren't covered by your body corporate or strata insurance, such as:

  • Kitchen cupboards
  • Fixed benchtops
  • Built-in pantries
  • Internal light fittings
  • Bathroom vanities, including fixed sinks and basins

Strata cover can vary, so check with your body corporate or owners corporation to confirm what's covered.

For example, your coverage might be split like this:

Cover can vary depending on your strata arrangements. Original fixtures and fittings may be covered by strata insurance, while any upgrades or renovations you've made can be covered under your own Contents Insurance.

When something goes wrong, what matters is how your insurer shows up. With over 110 years’ experience, Allianz is there when it counts, from everyday incidents to major events.

Tips, advice and guides to help keep your home and belongings safe.

If you’re new to insurance, calculating the replacement costs of your contents can seem daunting. Here’s our guide to help you get started.

Find out what home and contents insurance is, and what’s covered under your policy with our guide.

With Allianz, you can insure your jewellery under your Home and Contents cover. Find out what’s covered and how to insure your jewellery.

Allianz Contents Insurance is made for homeowners, including people who own a unit or apartment and don’t need building insurance.

If you’re renting the home you live in, Renter Insurance may be more suitable, as it’s designed for renters and their lease responsibilities.

Contents Insurance is generally for people who own their home and want cover for their contents, and sometimes certain fixtures or fittings inside the property.

Renter Insurance is designed for renters. It covers their belongings at the rented home and can also cover fixtures or fittings they’re legally responsible for under their lease agreement.

If you own and live in a strata unit or apartment, you may want Contents Insurance. While strata insurance usually covers the main building structure and common property, it often doesn’t cover everything inside your unit.

Contents Insurance can help cover your belongings and certain fixtures or fittings within your unit that aren’t covered by strata.

Allianz Contents Insurance can cover fixtures, fittings and improvements inside your strata unit when they're your responsibility and aren't covered by your building's strata insurance.

This can include:

  • Kitchens or bathrooms
  • Built in wardrobes
  • Built in appliances, such as ovens or rangehoods

For example, if your kitchen or bathroom fittings are damaged by an insured event, Contents Insurance may help cover the repair or replacement.

Strata insurance usually covers the main building structure and common property.

Building-related issues, such as a leaking pipe behind a wall, are typically covered by strata. Cover can differ between strata schemes though, so it’s a good idea to check with your body corp to see what’s covered and what’s the owner’s responsibility.

Strata insurance generally covers:

  • External building structures
  • Common property
  • Shared areas

Contents Insurance generally covers:

  • Your personal belongings
  • Certain fixed fixtures and fittings inside your unit that aren’t covered by strata

Always check your strata policy and the relevant PDS to understand where cover applies.

Fixed floor coverings and internal light fittings are covered by Contents Insurance if they aren’t covered by strata insurance. What’s covered can vary between strata schemes, so it’s best to confirm what your owners corporation insures.

Not always. Built-in appliances, such as ovens or rangehoods, may be covered by Contents Insurance if they aren’t covered by strata insurance. Cover depends on your policy and your strata arrangements.

We offer a contents calculator that’s powered by Sum Insured Pty Ltd, to make estimating the value of your contents easy. Simply enter your address into the contents calculator and verify a few details to get an estimate of your contents’ value.

You can even adjust the pre-populated fields like number of rooms in your home and add specific contents categories to generate an estimated replacement value (sum insured amount).

It’s important that the amount you’re insured for accurately reflects the cost to replace your contents. This is because you might have to pay the difference out of your own pocket if you’re insured for less than the replacement value of your contents. The contents calculator works as a guide that can help you avoid being underinsured.

It’s easy – calculate your contents in minutes in a few simple steps.

No. Contents are generally covered at your insured address. Items you take outside the home are only covered if you’ve added Portable Contents cover.

To cover items you take with you outside the home, you can add Portable Contents cover.

Portable Contents cover lets you insure items you wear or carry outside your insured address, such as:

  • Handbags or wallets
  • Sunglasses or jewellery
  • Musical instruments

You can choose:

  • Unlisted Portable Contents – covers items under $1,000, up to $1,000 per item and $5,000 per claim Listed
  • Listed Portable Contents – covers specific items valued at $1,000 or more for their full replacement value (minus any excess)

With Portable Contents cover, eligible items are covered anywhere in the world for up to 90 continuous days.

For cover away from the home, portable items valued at $1,000 or more usually need to be listed under Listed Portable Contents to be covered for their full replacement value.

Listing an item means you tell us what it is and how much it’s worth. This helps make sure high‑value items like jewellery are insured for the right amount. Items valued under $1,000 may be covered under Unlisted Portable Contents, up to the applicable limits.

For cover inside your home, you don't need to list most valuables. However, you'll need to list jewellery, watches (including smart watches), items containing gold or silver, collections or sets, and works of art, including antiques and rugs, if they're worth more than $7,500 per item, set or collection.

An excess usually applies when you make a contents claim. In most cases, you have the flexibility to choose your excess amount when you take out cover. In some cases, an additional excess may apply. These will be noted in your policy details document.
