Find out about:

You’ll need to list the main driver1 who uses the car the most. If you have any driver under 25 regularly driving the vehicle once or more per week, you’ll need to list them.

There’s an Under 25 excess you’ll need to pay if someone under the age of 25 drives the car, gets into an accident and the policyholder makes a claim. A lower Under 25 excess applies if an Under 25 driver is listed on your policy.

Keep in mind that this information is for customers who buy a new Comprehensive Car Insurance or Comprehensive Essentials policy . Our policies have changed over the years, so your cover may differ based on when you first purchased it. Visit our policy page for more information.

At this stage, you can:

  • Choose between paying monthly or yearly. You can pay monthly at no extra cost.
  • Choose your cover. Comprehensive Car Insurance, Comprehensive Essentials or Third Party Property Damage Insurance.
  • Agreed or market value. If you choose Comprehensive Car Insurance, you’re covered for agreed value. This is the amount you can insure your car for. The agreed value is the amount we agree to cover your car for if your car is written off as a total loss. You typically have a range to choose from. If you choose Comprehensive Essentials, you're covered for the car's market value.
  • Adjust your excess. If you select Comprehensive, you can adjust your excess to change your premium.
  • A higher excess can lower your premium cost.
  • You can also reduce the excess for drivers under 25.
  • Choose if you want to add optional cover. With Comprehensive, you can do this for an additional premium.
  • Review your quote. You can buy car insurance online or email it to yourself and come back later if you’re not ready to buy yet.

You need to buy a policy to receive your insurance certificate.

If it doesn’t work, you can select your car type manually. To do this:

  1. Enter your car details manually. Select the make, model and manufacture year.

Good to know: Make sure you get the manufacture year correct. For example, if you buy a new car in early 2025, the manufacture year is often 2024, not 2025.

If you’re unsure, check the owner’s manual or service book. The manufacture year is often listed in the first pages or under the vehicle information section.

  2. Select the correct car type from the list.

Helpful hint: The list often shows the engine type or variant. Check your car’s details so you pick the right one. This avoids errors if multiple versions exist for the same model/year.

  3. Need help? If you still can’t find your car or it links incorrectly, contact our webchat support for assistance.

Premiums depend on your car type, location, driver history, cover level, and chosen excess.

This is why we ask questions about your car and driving history when you get a quote.

An excess is an amount that you must pay towards each claim you make.

An example: Imagine your car is damaged in a covered accident and needs $7,000 of repairs. If your policy has a $1,100 excess, then you’ll need to pay the $1,100 excess and your car insurance will cover the remaining $5,900 for the cost of repairs.

Generally, choosing a higher excess can lower your premium, while choosing a lower excess will increase it.

With Allianz, there are two excesses.

  • Basic excess. A basic excess is the standard amount you must pay out of pocket when making a claim on your car insurance policy.
  • Under 25 Driver excess. An additional excess may apply if the driver is under 25 or inexperienced.

There may be additional excesses depending on your circumstances.

With Allianz, you can pay annually or monthly at no extra cost.

Yes, you can change your payment details after buying a policy. All Allianz Car Insurance customers can update their payment details online.

If you just want to get a quote, we don’t ask for any payment details. Your email and phone number are also optional.

When you get a quote, you can choose the date you’d like your policy to begin. Your cover will begin on the date you select. For example, if you get a quote on 30 September and choose 1 October as the start date, your policy will begin on 1 October.

You can set the start date for up to 45 days from when you get your quote.

Before you get behind the wheel, you must have Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance. This is the legal minimum in every state and territory in Australia. CTP covers injury to other people if you’re in an accident. It doesn’t cover you or other people’s cars.

Other types of car insurance, like Third Party Property or Comprehensive cover, are optional. These cover damage to other vehicles, property, or your own car, but you’re not legally required to have them to drive.

We’ll send you a confirmation email with your insurance certificate as soon as you buy an Allianz Car Insurance policy.
