Western Australians live with some of the country’s most varied and intense weather conditions. From bushfire‑prone areas in the south‑west and outer Perth suburbs to cyclone‑exposed communities in the north, having home insurance can make a real difference when big events hit. Head to our Extreme Weather Support guide for extra help.

WA faces some of Australia’s most severe bushfire seasons, especially across the south‑west and peri‑urban areas. We cover fire damage and provide temporary accommodation4 if you can no longer live in your home after a bushfire.3

We cover the cost of stolen items and repairs if your home or shed is broken into.

Northern WA experiences regular cyclones, while thunderstorms and damaging winds are common across the state. We cover you for storm, cyclone3 and rainwater damage.

Although WA is known for its dry climate, major flood events still occur, particularly in the Kimberley, Pilbara and Wheatbelt. We automatically cover flood and run‑off.3

Strong winds and storms frequently bring down trees and branches, especially in heavily treed suburbs. If a tree falls and causes damage to your fence, roof or other structures, the 'impact damage' benefit can provide cover.

This is a summary only of some of the features available in our Home Insurance policies. Before deciding on this insurance, carefully consider the PDS which sets out the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions.

Perth has a mix of local risks that vary by area. Here’s how our Home Insurance can help across different parts of the city.

  • Perth Hills and outer‑metro areas
  • These suburbs often face a higher chance of bushfires. Allianz Home Insurance includes fire and smoke, ash or soot damage cover.3 We can also help with temporary accommodation if you can’t live in your home.4
  • Coastal suburbs
  • Coastal areas often experience strong winds. We can cover you for storm3 and impact damage to your home.
  • Inner‑city and older suburbs
  • Older homes may be more exposed to water damage and sudden leaks. Our cover includes storm,3 rainwater and the sudden escape of liquid, like a burst pipe.
  • Northern and southern growth corridors
  • Some suburbs in Perth’s northern and southern growth corridors show higher rates of theft and break‑ins, based on WA Police suburb‑level crime data and ABS victimisation statistics. Our Home Insurance covers stolen items, break‑ins and damage to doors, windows and locks. We also cover sheds, garages and content items in outdoor areas (up to 20% of your general contents sum insured).
  • Homes with solar panels
  • Many Perth homes include solar panels, patios, fences and sheds. These can be covered by a Home and Contents policy, along with storm3 and hail events that commonly affect these features.

In 2025, Allianz and the partners we provide insurance through supported over 8,700 customers in WA with their Home Insurance claims.

These claims were broken down into the following categories:

  1. Storm, rainwater, lightning, wind – 39.1%
  2. Bursting, such as water tanks and pipes – 21.6%
  3. Accidental breakage or damage – 11.2%
  4. Other – 6.2%
  5. Impact Damage – 4.4%

While our current Allianz Home Insurance policy continues to cover the same common events, all claims are subject to the terms of your policy, so please consider the PDS.

If your home is damaged by a flood, bushfire or cyclone and we’ve agreed to rebuild, we can help you come back more resilient and safer.

Our environmental and resilience benefit is available with Home and Landlord Insurance when you have buildings cover. It helps pay for upgrades like solar panels, rainwater tanks, cyclone shutters, roof sprinklers or fire-resistant materials. We’ll cover up to $20,000, on top of your sum insured, once costs are approved and rebates are deducted.5

The rebuild safety net is an optional benefit you can add to your Allianz Home Insurance or Allianz Landlord Insurance policy. It can be added when you get a quote. Eligibility criteria applies.

If we accept your claim for loss or damage and the cost is more than your building’s insured amount, we can pay you up to 30% extra. For example, if your buildings sum insured is $500,000, we’ll cover up to $150,000 in addition to your buildings sum insured to cover these unexpected costs.

Home insurance isn’t legally required in Western Australia, but lenders often require building insurance before approving a home loan.

WA homeowners face several major risks, including:

  • Bushfires in the south‑west and Perth Hills
  • Cyclones in the Pilbara and Kimberley
  • Severe thunderstorms and hail across Perth and regional WA
  • Flooding and stormwater run‑off
  • Falling trees and wind damage

You’ll need to consider the level of cover that's appropriate for you and your circumstances. We offer Home Insurance calculators that can help guide you on the sum insured you may need.

  1. Minimum premiums may apply

Where discounts are applied, your premium is subject to rounding. If more than one discount applies, they’re applied in a predetermined order, so the later discounts apply to the amount already reduced by the earlier discounts instead of the total amount. Discounts do not apply to government taxes and charges.

Discounts won’t apply below the minimum amount payable for the policy.

  2. Combined Discounts

A discount of up to 10% is applied to your premium when you combine Buildings and Contents on one Home Insurance policy. The discount applies to all optional covers except to optional Portable contents cover (if available and selected) and does not apply to Landlord or Renter Insurance.

  3. 72-hour exclusion period may apply

We may not provide cover for any loss of or damage to your property caused by cyclone, flood, flood water combined with run-off and/or rainwater, grassfires and bushfires during the first 72 hours after you first purchase a policy or increase your cover under an existing policy. Refer to PDS for when exclusion periods apply.

  4. Alternative accommodation

Covers weekly rent equivalent up to the property’s rentable value before the damage. The most we’ll pay for any one claim in total is up to 10% of either your buildings or general contents sum insured (as applicable). If you have buildings and contents cover and you make a claim for loss or damage to both due to same insured event, we’ll pay up to 10% of the buildings sum insured in total. This is an extra amount, paid in addition to your sum insured.

  5. The most we will pay in any one period of insurance is up to $20,000, after deduction of any government or council rebates. This is an extra amount paid in addition to your sum insured. Terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply. Refer to the PDS for full details.
