Our optional Motor Burnout cover can help with the unexpected costs caused by electric motor burnout, also known as fusion damage. You can choose to add it to your Allianz Home, Renter or Landlord Insurance policies.

Most household appliances, such as fridges and air conditioners, use electric motors. Changes to the electric current powering the motor, like a power surge, can cause the wiring or motor to ‘burn out’. If this happens, the appliance breaks down, leaving you with the costs to repair or replace it.

Below is a snapshot of some of our product features, benefits, and exclusions. For the full list of product inclusions and exclusions, we recommend reading the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

What's covered
  • Damage to your household appliances and white goods caused by an electrical current
  • Motor fusion damage to your household appliances due to a power surge
What's not covered
  • Appliances and white goods more than 10 years old
  • Damage due to wear and tear
  • Damage covered by any warranty or manufacturer’s guarantee
  • Repair or replacement costs for fuses, switches, and electronic components
  • Costs of removing or reinstalling pumps, rectifiers, and transformers

This is a summary only of some of the features and benefits available on Allianz Home, Renter and Landlord Insurance, as well as some of the exclusions. Before deciding on a policy, carefully consider the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Supplementary PDS (where applicable) which set out the standard terms, conditions, limits and exclusions.

It can help you manage the unexpected costs that result from appliance breakdowns due to an electrical current. When a motor burns out, it can be expensive to repair or replace, potentially leaving you with a hefty bill.

By adding optional Motor Burnout cover to your policy you can help avoid unexpected expenses.

You’d need Motor Burnout cover if, for example, your washing machine stops mid-cycle due to a burnt-out motor. Here are a few situations where Motor Burnout cover can be useful:

  • Electrical power surges: if the electricity supply to your appliances suddenly increases and harms their motors.
  • Power fluctuations: if the electricity supply often goes up and down where you live.
  • Expensive appliances: if your appliances are expensive to replace, Motor Burnout cover can be a good idea. It helps you avoid paying for unexpected repairs or replacements to the motor that could strain your budget.

Remember to read the relevant PDS to understand when and how Motor Burnout cover applies.

You can add Motor Burnout cover to your Home Insurance, Renter Insurance, or Landlord Insurance, for an extra cost. This will depend on the cost of your insurance, called your premium, and the excess you choose.1
It’s the same as motor burnout. Motor fusion and motor burnout happen when an electrical motor burns out due to an electrical current issue. This could be a power surge or short circuit. The motor stops working, causing the appliance to break down.
