Contents insurance protects the belongings you keep at your insured address. This can include furniture, jewellery, carpet, appliances and electronics, your BBQ, and even your clothes, shoes and handbags.

General contents — What’s covered?

General contents are things you own and that you are legally responsible for, such as your furniture, whitegoods, electrical appliances, clothing, linen, crockery, and even carpets.

The table below represents what’s covered under general contents insurance.

✔ External medical aids and devices including wheelchairs and mobility scooters

✔ Swimming pools, saunas and spas (including their fixed accessories) which are designed to be dismantled and moved (excludes water)
✔ Where your insured address is a strata title development, fixtures, fittings and/or structural improvements for which you are legally responsible or which are owned by you and which are not insurable by the body corporate
✔ Where you are a tenant any structures or fittings for which you are legally responsible as per any lease agreement

Specified contents

If you need to insure general content items with set limit for more than their PDS valued limit, for some items you may be able to list them separately on your policy as specified contents – and specify a replacement value above the PDS standard limit. If cover is provided for the specified contents items these will be separately listed and insured for the amounts shown on the policy schedule whilst at the insured address only.

Portable contents

Portable contents protects items you take away from home, such as mobile phones, cameras or jewellery. If you choose this option, you will be covered for loss or damage to your portable contents caused by theft or an accident at the insured address or anywhere in the world. Cover outside of Australia is limited to 120 continues days in any period of insurance.

Flood cover

Covers you for loss or damage to your home and contents caused by flood and certain flood related events. Optional flood cover may not be available in some areas. Allianz do not provide cover for any loss of or damage to your property caused by cyclone, flood, grassfires and bushfires, during the first 72 hours after you first purchase a policy or increase your cover under an existing policy.

Motor burnout

Covers you if an electrical current damages your domestic household electrical motors, such as your fridge, freezer or washing machine, up to 10 years old.

Accidental damage

Accidental damage covers you for destruction caused by sudden, unforeseen, and unintended events, not just the specified insured events. If you’ve insured your contents, we’ll cover any accidental damage or loss to any content items:
