Workers' compensation varies depending on the state or territory your business operates in.
As a general guide, workers' compensation insurance includes cover for the following1:
 
  • Wages or loss of earnings if your worker is unable to work
  • Reasonable medical expenses, treatment and rehabilitation costs
  • Lump sum payments in case of permanent impairment
  • All your employees
  • Anyone receiving a wage or commission payment, including casuals and temporary employees, apprentices and trainees 
  • Contractors in some states and territories
  • Workers' compensation insurance doesn’t cover sole traders or a partner in a partnership
