General Property

We know how important your tools and equipment are to your success. From hammers and drills to phones and laptops, most small businesses would struggle to continue working without them, which is why we offer General Property Insurance.

General Property offers the reassurance of worldwide coverage (unless otherwise noted) for your tools and equipment, as well as the accidental loss and damage of any portable tools and equipment used in the course of your business. It also covers items at customers’ sites or taken home by your employees.

What cover options can I choose?
Unspecified items cover

Unspecified items include equipment such as tools of trade and business contents like furniture, but this cover does not include electronic items. When you buy a policy online, you can choose to insure your business property for $2,500, $5,000, $10,000 or $25,000. Items are covered up to a maximum of $2500 for any one item up to the sum insured for all unspecified items in any one event.

Stock cover

Online, you can choose to cover $2,000, $3,000 or $5,000 worth of stock, or you can apply for more by calling us.

Specified Items cover

With this cover, you can insure: electronic items, computers, photographic equipment, mobile phones, faxes, multi-scanners and similar equipment, plus other items which are of a value greater than $2,500.

However jewelry, sporting equipment, curios, works of art, precious metals, precious stones, money, motor vehicles, ride-on mowers, caravans, trailers, motorcycles, watercraft, aircraft or aerial devices, livestock and animals, cannot be insured under this product.

Specified Items must be listed on your policy schedule.

Electronic Equipment

Can you imagine working without technology? So much of what we do relies on electronics, it’s vital to insure your equipment against breakdown. Additional cover is provided to cover the costs of temporary hire of replacement equipment to help keep you up and running.

Electronic Equipment cover is best suited to businesses that need to insure computers and electronic equipment at their business premises, but not for those looking to insure against accidental damage or loss. For damage or loss cover, please consider General Property or Material Damage.

What can I insure?
Computers

You can insure all your office computers, as long as they weigh less than 5kg.

Other electronic equipment

These include any electronic devices – including those used for research, medical, telecommunication transmission, audio visual and office machines. This cover also provides a number of additional benefits, including:

  • Hire of temporary equipment
  • Removal of debris, including clean-up costs and disposal of debris
  • Temporary cover for up to 90 consecutive days, allowing for replacement of equipment.

Machinery Breakdown

If your business relies on specific machinery to function, you need to know it’s covered. This cover will allow you to have the machinery repaired or replaced, and also provides optional cover for deterioration of stock as a result of the machinery breakdown.

Machinery Breakdown covers all machinery at your business premises, except for those excluded under the PDS, e.g.: computers, communication equipment and audio visual items. If you would like to cover these items, Electronic Equipment could be an option.

What are my cover options?

Depending on the value of the equipment, you can choose a level of cover from $10,000 or $20,000 online, or, if you need a higher level of cover, call us on 1300 203060. This will mean that all your equipment is covered up to the amount selected, except for the items excluded or impacted in the PDS. You also have the option of including air conditioning units at your business premises.

Machinery Breakdown also provides a number of additional benefits including:
  • Removal of debris – including the clean-up costs and disposal of debris (available by calling us)
  • Hire of temporary machinery, including costs associated with temporary repairs, and the extra cost of expediting permanent repairs in relation to overtime and freight costs.
