The cost of your insurance is called a 'premium'. Your premium will depend on a number of factors, and can change each year when you renew your policy. Your premium for each period of insurance will be shown on your policy schedule.

There are several factors that determine how your premium is calculated, including your risk profile, such as:

  • Where your caravan or trailer is parked when you’re not using it
  • The type of caravan or trailer you’re insuring
  • The amount and type of cover you require
  • Your claims history
  • The likelihood of a claim being made on your policy
  • Any discounts that may apply
  • Any compulsory government charges such as Stamp Duty and GST
  • Any other charges we tell you of
  • Any optional covers you choose

Although you're not legally required to have caravan or trailer insurance, it’s worth considering whether you could afford to repair or replace your caravan or trailer if it were involved in an accident, stolen, or damaged by a fire or storm.
There's always the risk of accidental damage or theft, even while your caravan is in your driveway. So it’s a good idea to consider insuring your caravan, whether you're on the road or at home.

It's important to consider whether Comprehensive Car Insurance or Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance are right for you. For example, having Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance for your car can cover any damage you cause to other people's cars or property while towing your caravan or trailer.

Most car insurance policies cover your vehicle while towing a caravan or trailer, but many won't cover damage to your caravan or trailer if it’s involved in an accident. That's why it's important to check your car insurance policy and consider taking out additional caravan or trailer insurance.

Some home insurance policies include cover for personal possessions away from home, usually if you pay an extra premium. If you have Allianz Home and Contents Insurance and buy optional Portable Contents cover, your Portable Contents items will be covered for accidental damage or loss while you’re caravanning up to the nominated value. You'll need to nominate a contents sum insured for other contents items you keep in your caravan.
Our Caravan and Trailer Insurance allows you to select contents cover of up to $6,000 without additional approval. This includes cover for loss or damage to your contents because of either an accident where your caravan or trailer is accidentally damaged at the same time, or theft following forced entry to your caravan or trailer.
  1. Legal liability cover
Arising out of a single event or series of related events. This cover will only apply if your legal liability arises out of the use of your caravan or trailer. We won’t cover your legal liability for claims arising out of or in any way connected with the existence of asbestos.

  2. New replacement after a total loss
If a replacement caravan or trailer in the same make, model and series is not currently available, we’ll pay you either the market value or agreed value of your caravan or trailer, whichever is shown in the current schedule.

  3. Temporary accommodation
Following an accident which causes your caravan or camper trailer to be uninhabitable, we will reimburse you for the reasonable costs of necessary temporary accommodation for you and your family. The maximum we will pay in respect of any one accident which results in a claim is $400.
Allianz acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work across Australia. We pay our respect to First Nations Elders past and present.
