If you interact with the public in the course of your business activities, Public Liability Insurance can help protect you if you become liable to pay compensation for injury to third parties, or damage to their property as a result of your business activities, or while using your product or service.

Even if you’re not at fault, you may still have to pay legal costs. Public Liability Insurance can cover reasonable legal costs you incur in defending a claim.

The list of industries exposed to Public Liability claims is extensive including tradies, retailers, professional service providers, health and beauty professionals, real estate and more.

Often businesses are asked to give proof of insurance and need a specified level of cover. Check with your landlord, council or primary contractor to make sure you have the required Public Liability level of cover in place.
We offer customers several Public Liability limits of indemnity to suit your business: $5M, $10M or $20M.

If you’re a sole trader, contractor or freelancer who interacts with the general public on a regular basis, you could have a claim for damage or injury brought against you by a third party if an accident were to happen.

Without Public and Products Liability Insurance, you could be required to cover the costs of the third party as well as funding your own legal defence.

As a sole trader or contractor, you may also be requested to show proof of Public and Products Liability Insurance before entering a new contract, workplace or site.

Yes, you can buy Allianz Public and Products Liability Insurance on its own under a Business Insurance Pack policy.

However, if you’d like to insure against other risks to your business, such as damage to your business vehicle or specialist equipment you may travel with, you can also add other small business insurance covers to your Business Insurance Pack policy when you purchase your Public and Products Liability cover.

Public Liability Insurance for property owners is available through our dedicated Australian-based Business team. Call us on 1300 131 000 or more information and to begin your quote.

If you’ve selected Public and Products Liability cover, and provided details of your business location, cover can be provided to your home or mobile business.

Public Liability can insure your business against claims of negligence from clients or suppliers who visit your home. For example, if you run a home-based hair salon and a client comes to your home, trips on a power cord, and hurts themself.

Every business is unique and it’s impossible to predict how much compensation you may become liable to pay in the case of an incident.

Cover of $5 million may be sufficient for a small business with low risk exposure. However, a higher limit may be required depending on the conditions of a contract you may be entering into.

If you’re unsure how much cover you may need, you could search the conditions of your business or trade license, landlord, council, worksite, or primary contractor to ensure you have the appropriate cover.

Depending on your circumstances, you may wish to consider setting a higher limit of cover for when something goes wrong.

Allianz offers flexible limits of $5M, $10M or $20M to choose from.

Public Liability relates to a member of the public being injured or having their property damaged resulting from, or relating to, your work. For example, a customer visiting your premise, tripping on a wet floor, and injuring themself.

Products Liability relates to injury to a person, or damage to their property, caused by any products you manufacture, distribute, supply, or sell.

Allianz Public Liability Insurance, also known as Public and Products Liability Insurance, automatically includes both public liability and products liability under one convenient cover.
