Travel Insurance Cancellation Cover

For when the unexpected happens on your travels

Travelling can be unpredictable. You may need to cancel, reschedule, or shorten your trip due to unexpected circumstances outside of your control.

Allianz Travel Insurance trip cancellation is designed to cover the non-refundable travel and accommodation costs associated with flight cancellations, illness, emergencies, travel delays and more.1

It’s included as a standard benefit in our Comprehensive, Domestic and Multi-Trip plans.

When you buy your policy, you have the option to adjust the level of cancellation cover you need.

Trip cancellation cover is the only cover that starts from the day your policy is issued. This means you can claim if you need to cancel your trip due to an unexpected event – even before you leave.

This is a limited summary of cover provided under the cancellation benefit. Terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and applicable sub-limits apply. For full details and before making a decision, consider the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

If something unexpected and out of your control happens during your period of cover, and your trip is cancelled, changed, or cut short, we’ll reimburse you:

  • The unused travel and accommodation expenses you already paid and can’t get back if your trip is cancelled1
  • The value of frequent flyer points, air miles or vouchers you lose if your trip is cancelled – but only if you can’t recover them in any another way1
  • The reasonable costs of rescheduling your journey.1

If you’re considering an Allianz Travel Insurance policy with cancellation cover, there are terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits that you need to be aware of. This includes cancelling your trip due to reasons you were aware of before purchasing your policy, changing your mind about your travel plans, or your employer cancels your leave.

For all scenarios not covered refer to the cancellation benefit section in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS)

No matter how prepared you are for your trip, the unexpected can happen. Whether you’re travelling overseas or within Australia, it’s a good choice to consider a travel insurance policy with trip cancellation. Allianz travel insurance Comprehensive, Domestic and Multi-Trip plans provide cancellation cover as a standard benefit.

We also understand that no two trips are the same. This is why we provide the option to choose different levels of cancellation cover depending on your travel plans. When choosing a cancellation cover amount for your trip, consider:

  • How much you’re prepared to pay for your travel insurance premium. Varying your level of cancellation cover will affect the cost of your travel insurance policy.
  • The amount that would cover the costs you’d lose if something unexpected forced you to cancel, change or shorten your trip. This could include accommodation, extra transport and prepaid tours.

You can pick from different levels of cover  when you buy your policy. Choose an amount that covers what you’d lose if you had to change your travel plans. This amount is the most we’ll pay for any claims under this benefit.

A default limit for cancellation cover is automatically included in your cover unless you make a selection.  Any benefit limit selected by you will be shown on your Certificate of Insurance. The benefit limit shown will be the most we will pay for all claims under this benefit.

Cover begins on the date of issue of your Certificate of Insurance. This is when you purchase cover.

Your cover ends when your journey finishes or on the end date shown on the certificate – whichever comes first.

For Multi-trip plans, your cover ends at the end of each journey or the maximum number of days chosen for the plan, whichever happens first.

Please note: cancellation cover is the only cover that begins from the date your Certificate of Insurance is issued. Cover for all other benefits begin when you start your trip.

If you think that you may have to cancel or shorten your trip, tell us as soon as possible.

If you need to cancel or reschedule a flight due to circumstances that are outside your control, we'll reimburse you the non-refundable portion. We’ll only do this if you're unable to recover your loss in any other way.

However, we won’t pay your claim if the cancellation is caused by you or your travel companion changing your mind, or where a delay or rescheduling is caused by the airline.

Terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and applicable sub-limits apply. For full details and before making a decision, consider the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS)
