Allianz celebrates Olympic and Paralympic partnerships with ‘One year to Tokyo’ event

24 July 2019

To celebrate the important milestone of the one year countdown until the beginning of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Allianz today held a themed employee event, which included a Q&A session hosted by Seven News Sports Presenter Jim Wilson. The event also featured Olympic gold medallists Sally Pearson and Chloe Esposito, and Paralympians Nic Beveridge and silver medallist Madi de Rozario.

This event followed the announcement in April 2019 of Allianz Australia as a partner of the Australian Olympic Team until 2028, as well as continuing a longstanding partnership with Paralympics Australia. The partnership sees Allianz support the Olympics in a range of ways, including plans to provide insurance to the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), the Australian Olympic Teams, and athletes as they prepare for the Tokyo Games and beyond.

In addition to the Q&A session, Allianz employees were able to enjoy Japanese food, festivities, and interactive virtual reality stations. These activities were designed to showcase some of the new sports that are set to spice up the 2020 Games, including baseball/softball, karate, surfing, skateboarding, and a uniquely Paralympic sport, goalball.

“The athletes who we support as part of our Olympic and Paralympic partnerships demonstrate outstanding resilience and commitment,” said Allianz Australia Managing Director Richard Feledy. “Their mental and physical health is of the utmost importance, but many are also balancing their sporting endeavours with family commitments and careers. Hearing first-hand stories from Olympians and Paralympians about how they achieve their goals and find balance in their personal, sporting and professional lives, is inspirational for all Allianz employees, including myself.”

“Allianz employees are passionate and dedicated, and we’re very proud to be a part of this community of athletes with shared values. I’m looking forward to celebrating this significant milestone of one year to Tokyo 2020.”

Allianz Australia will continue its support of Paralympics Australia and will work with the AOC to provide innovative and integrated insurance solutions, in alignment with the Olympic Movement, for the athletes and teams. The partnerships period covers the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the Olympic Winter Games Milan-Cortina 2026 and the Olympic Games LA 2028.
