Allianz Care Cup unites Australian footy codes for football showcase ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026™

2 June, 2026

  • As the Official Insurance Partner of Football Australia, Allianz is calling on all Australians to get behind the CommBank Socceroos ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
  • Allianz brought together NRL, Rugby Union and AFL legends for the Allianz Care Cup at Allianz Stadium — a one-of-a-kind football match where cross-code rivalries were put aside to unite behind the national team.
  • There were falls, stumbles and struggles as the footy legends stepped outside their codes, but the Allianz Care Cup demonstrated what Australian sport is all about: resilience, unity, having fun and never giving up.
  • Ahead of kick off, Allianz Stadium announced it would open as a free live site on Sunday 14 June for the Australia versus Türkiye game. The community is invited to watch every moment live from the big screens from the hallowed turf at this free event.

Australia’s biggest sporting legends have put cross-code rivalries aside in a show of support for the CommBank Socceroos ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

Footy champions including Michael Hooper, Matt Giteau, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Steve Menzies, Brett and Josh Morris, Nick Davis and Guy ‘Bluey’ McKenna came together at Allianz Stadium for the Allianz Care Cup, uniting in support of our national men’s football team.

While they’re more accustomed to performing under lights with an oval ball in hand, it was the round ball that took centre stage in the five-a-side football match, coached by former Socceroos and Matildas legends, Archie Thompson and Heather Garriock.

Ahead of kick off, it was announced that Allianz Stadium would host a free live site for the community to cheer on Australia in their opening round match against Türkiye on 14 June.

Fans will be able to watch all the live action on the big screens from both the field of play or in the grandstands, with plenty of family-friendly entertainment throughout the day.

NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said, “There’s nothing quite like watching Australia compete on the world stage surrounded by fellow fans.

“We’re excited to open Allianz Stadium as a free live site, giving the community an opportunity to come together to experience the CommBank Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup 2026™ opener from the field of play.”

Shez Ford, Chief General Manager, Consumer at Allianz Australia, said, “Each of the footy legends competing in the Allianz Care Cup embodies the determination, strength and grit required to perform at the highest level – but today they stepped outside their comfort zones in the name of something bigger.

“Moments like the Allianz Care Cup allow us to celebrate resilience, unity and the pride Australians feel when they come together to support our national teams, so we are delighted to be joining the community at Allianz Stadium on 14 June to cheer for Australia. Care never gives up when it comes to standing together and backing our own.”

Michael Hooper, former Wallabies Captain, said, “I jumped at the chance to be part of the Allianz Care Cup because it’s not often you get to step outside your own sport and try something completely different. You gain a whole new respect for the game and the athletes who play it. There were a lot of stumbles and a lot of laughs, but we all agreed it was a great reminder of what Aussie sport is all about."

Allianz Stadium will be open to the public as a free live site on Sunday 14 June as Australia takes on Türkiye live from Vancouver with kick off at 2:00pm AEST. The event is free and open to families of all ages. A mini football pitch, merchandise, food stalls and face-painting will be available, with seating on the field of play or grandstands.

Ford continued, “We’re calling on all Australians to get behind our men’s football team as Allianz Stadium becomes a live site for fans. As an insurer, we exist to provide security and confidence, helping remove uncertainty for our customers. Our partnership with Football Australia gives us the opportunity to act on this promise – bringing to life what care means in moments that matter to the nation.”

As the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026™ continues, Allianz is proud to champion that spirit – proving that no matter the sport, when it counts, care never gives up and we rally as one behind our national team.
