Evolution of road construction infographic

Over 817,000 kilometres of paved roads crisscross Australia. The extensive road network is the preferred way of getting around our country, with stats showing that more than three quarters of all passenger kilometres travelled in Australia take place on the roads.

In this infographic, we show you the development of road infrastructure through several centuries and from around the globe, looking at the building methods and materials dating as far back as the Ancient Egyptians. Leaping forward to now, we look at how bitumen roads are constructed today.
