Insurance for cafés & restaurants

Covers for coffee shops, catering companies, restaurants, and more

It takes planning, passion, and dedication to run your own business, and build a steady stream of loyal customers. With all the investment you’ve put in, you might want to consider insuring your hard work and assets.

Coffee shops and restaurants face many risks and hazards, from the breakdown of fridges and coffee machines, to customer and supplier injuries while at your shop. Consider covering your business and its assets with our Business Insurance Pack.

Pay by the month at no extra cost1.  You can pay monthly or annually at no extra cost to suit your cash flow.

From small cafés to bustling restaurants, our Business Insurance Pack offers a range of covers2 in one simple-to-manage, flexible policy designed to cover businesses. Here’s a small selection of what café and restaurant owners might consider.

Start with Public Liability, then you can choose additional covers to suit your business.

Have you ever seen a waiter spill coffee on a customer’s laptop? Or a supplier trip on a plastic mat when delivering goods? Accidents like this can happen and they may also lead to expensive legal claims.

Our Public Liability Insurance, included under our Public and Products Liability Insurance covers you if a member of the public is injured, or their property is damaged, at your business premises or because of using your products or services. It covers compensation you’re legally liable to pay plus your reasonable legal fees.

Public Liability Insurance is automatically included with every Business Insurance Pack when quoted online. For a quote without Public Liability cover, contact our Australian-based specialist Business team on 1300 131 000.

As a hospitality business, you rely on expensive equipment such as ovens, coffee machines and cooktops. If this machinery stops working, repairs can be costly.

Our Machinery Breakdown Insurance covers repair or replacement of your machinery in the event of breakdown. An optional cover is available at an additional cost for deterioration of stock in this event. Our Machinery Breakdown Insurance also includes the cost of hiring temporary machinery while your regular machinery is being repaired or replaced.

Note: In order to add Machinery Breakdown cover to your Business Insurance Pack, you’ll need to buy Commercial Property cover. Machinery Breakdown cover is not available online, if you wish to obtain Commercial Property cover with Machinery Breakdown cover, contact our Australian-based Business team on 1300 131 000.

If your café or restaurant features glass windows, doors, display cases or shelves, there’s always the risk of accidental breakage. Our Glass Insurance is designed to cover the cost of replacing and fixing unexpectedly broken glass.

This can include the repair or replacement of signwriting and fittings surrounding your windows, as well as damage to illuminated/advertising signs or stock damage caused by the broken glass.

If the security of your business premises is affected due to glass breakage, our Glass Insurance can also cover the cost of employing security to guard your business, and carrying out temporary repairs, if necessary.

If you rent the premises for your coffee shop or restaurant, your lease may specify the minimum amount of public liability cover you’re required to have – check before you buy.

Your lease or landlord may also specify a minimum amount of glass cover.
