Madison was first encouraged to begin wheelchair racing by Australian Paralympic Hall of Fame inductee Frank Ponta.

She made her Paralympic debut as the youngest athlete on the 2008 Australian Paralympic Team. She’s the first Australian to win the elite women’s wheelchair race at the London Marathon in 2018, and in 2021, she became the first Australian woman to win the New York Marathon.

With three Paralympic silver medals and ten World Championships medals under her belt, Madison is the reigning women’s 800m T53 world champion and was never more ready to contest gold at her fourth Paralympic campaign.

At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Madison took home medals in three of her four events. She became a Paralympic champion when she won her first gold in the 800m T53, and topped off her Tokyo campaign with a stunning win in the Marathon T54 on the final day of the Games.

Since Tokyo 2020, Madison has gone from strength to strength. In 2022 she was named Athlete of the Year at the Women in Sport awards, and in 2023 won both the London and Sydney marathon.

With a busy year ahead, Madison is completing intensive training to qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Madison believes it’s important to get proactive with mental health and is currently working on reframing negative thoughts and focusing more on the positive ones.

Nic was 17 years old when he woke one morning to discover he was paralysed from the chest down. He had transverse myelitis, a rare neurological condition which attacks the spinal cord, and his was particularly aggressive.

Although Nic enjoyed sport during his teens, it was not until a stint in hospital during the London 2012 Paralympic Games that his passion for sport returned and he began to research sporting options.

Inspired by Bill Chaffey, a five-time world champion in Paralympic triathlon, Nic contacted Triathlon Queensland and was classified. He made his international debut the following year at the 2013 International Triathlon Union World Triathlon Grand Final in London, England.

Nic made his Paralympic debut at Rio 2016 Paralympic Games when Triathlon also made its debut at the Games and finished in the Top 10 in the PT1 event. Nic also competed at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in the PTWC where he finished seventh.

Not only is Nic pursuing qualification for his third Australian Paralympic Team in Paris 2024, but also completing a degree in law, and has recently completed a 6-month internship with our legal team here at Allianz.

Nic’s focus is on purpose and passion, in his sporting career and beyond. Through purpose and by truly loving what you’re doing, Nic believes you can build mental strength to help you perform at your best.

Wheelchair rugby is an intense, contact team sport played in eight-minute quarters; it was originally known as Murderball. To be eligible to compete, athletes must have an impairment in all four limbs.

The Australian team, known as the Steelers, has competed at every Paralympic Games since the sport gained full Paralympic medal status at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. The Steelers won their first gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and defended their Paralympic gold medal during Rio 2016. Allianz is proud to be an official supporter of the Steelers

Despite their strong physical appearance, the Steelers have recently been focusing on building their mental strength, opening up and being vulnerable with each other. They collectively believe that good mental health is how their team can have the edge – through better decision making and stronger performance under pressure.

The Steelers are currently working towards qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
