The 85th International White Truffle Fair (http://www.fieradeltartufo.org/2015/it/) is taking place in Alba, Italy this year from 10 October to 15 November. The white truffle is an important part of the region's history, with the prized mushroom being regarded as having aphrodisiac and healing qualities. As a result, the truffles fetch a pretty price when they are harvested in autumn, using specially trained dogs and pigs to find them. You don't have to be a mushroom enthusiast to participate in the fun - the fair promises a variety of specialty foods available for tasting and buying, as well as truffle hunts and the Donkey Palio, where you can watch donkeys race and costumed Italians re-enact Alba's historyi.
