Anzac Day, Gallipoli, Turkey

This 25th of April marks the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landing at Gallipoli. Thousands are expected to attend the commemorative services on the Peninsula: a joint Australian New Zealand service at the Anzac Commemorative Site, an Australian Memorial Service at Lone Pine, and a New Zealand Memorial Service at Chunuk Bairi. If you were unsuccessful in gaining a place, there will be commemorative services held in France, Belgium, the UK, New Zealand and locally, in Australia.

World Ski and Snowboard Festival, Whistler, Canada

From 10 to 19 April, the World Ski and Snowboard Festival will take place on the slopes of Whistler, showcasing an array of film, music and ski culture. The ten day festival will be packed with family friendly events and activities, including demonstrations of the latest in ski technology, film screenings, a silent disco and roller derby, an outdoor concert series and of course, plenty of action on the slopesii!

From 10 to 19 April, the World Ski and Snowboard Festival will take place on the snow-covered slopes of Whistler.

Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, Shanghai, China

If you missed the Formula 1 season opener in Melbourne this year, catch up on the experience in Shanghai at Round 3 from 10 to 12 April. The Shanghai International Circuit will host all of your favourite drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Australia's very own, Daniel Ricciardoiii. If you're itching to get to the tracks, Round 4 is in Bahrain from the 17 to 19 April.

At the annual King's Day (formerly 'Queen's Day') celebration in Amsterdam, you'll be sure to experience enough of the colour orange to last you a lifetime! Each year to honour the birthday of the reigning monarch, the nation's capital puts on an unforgettable party that spans the city's streets, waterways and public spaces. This year on King Willem-Alexander's birthday, 27 April, the city will light up with hues of bright orange, the official colour of the royal family . Everyone, young and old, wears the royal colour as they take to the streets in a Mardi Gras-like celebration. Be sure to check out the 'vrijmarkt' – Amsterdam's large-scale flea market - and the festive events at Museumpleinv.

Budapest Spring Festival, Budapest, Hungary

As we prepare for winter, Hungary is setting its sights on spring with its annual Budapest Spring Festival. From 10 to 26 April, Budapest will be the centre of sophisticated revelry, with classical, jazz and contemporary music concerts as well as opera, ballet and theatre being performed throughout the cityvi. The performances will be held in 32 of Budapest's finest venues and for architecture and history buffs, visiting these sites is a mustvii. The two-week festival is heralded as one of Europe's most prestigious arts and culture festivals and promises an event for everyone with both free and children/youth eventsvi.

The fun doesn't stop there: around the world, people of all cultures, languages and backgrounds are celebrating something.

In New Orleans, the Jazz and Heritage Festival will boast an impressive lineup of Elton John, The Who, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, No Doubt, John Legend, the list goes on! The festival is on at the end of the month, from 24 April to 3 May. Also down south, the Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette celebrates unique and emerging performers from 22 to 26 April. For a film fix, the internationally renowned Tribeca Film Festival in New York is on from 15 to 26 April and will feature the ESPN Sports Film Festival, Family Festival Street Fair, plus talks and discussion panels. If you're in California, check out the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival over two weekends (April 10 and April 17) at the Empire Polo Club. Headline acts include AC-DC, Jack White, Florence and the Machine, and David Guetta. Stagecoach: California's Country Music Festival is on for three days starting April 24. The festival is located in Indio, California, 144 miles from Los Angeles, 131 miles from San Diego and just 23 miles from Palm Springs. Acts include Tim McGraw, Steve Earle, Miranda Lambert, George Thorogood and the Destroyers and ZZ Top.

The 2015 Masters Tournament will be held at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, USA from 6 to 12 April. For rugby followers, Japan will be home to the 7th round of the World Rugby Sevens on 4 and 5 April at Tokyo's Prince Chichibu Memorial Ground.

In Thailand, all over the country, people will be celebrating Thai New Year at the Songkran Festival, which is on from the 13th to the 15th. The festival is also known as the Water Festival, a fun-filled three days of water spraying, hosing and drenching - essentially, a nationwide water fight! The festive spirit continues in India at the Thrissur Pooram Elephant Festival on 28 April in Thrissur, Keralaviii. In South Africa, the Splashy Fen Music Festival, now in its 26th year will bring together music fans from 2 to 6 April. In Germany, the night of the 30th of April is Witches' Night (Walpurgisnacht) - dress up in your finest witch costume or gather around a bonfire at this spring festival.
