Allianz Australia reappointed as a Scheme Agent within the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme

I am pleased to announce that Allianz has been reappointed as a Scheme Agent within the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme, following a competitive and rigorous tender process for a new three-year contract. We have been awarded 27.8% market share of the Generalist portfolio and in excess of 35% market share of the Long Tail portfolio in the NSW Scheme. This outcome makes Allianz the largest Agent in the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme. Gallagher Bassett Services (GBS) was not appointed under the new arrangements, therefore all claims and policies managed by GBS will be transferred to Allianz during 2015.

2015 Workers Compensation Legislative Reform

The following changes to the existing Workers Compensation legislation came into effect on 16 October 2015 and apply retrospectively from 5 August 2015:

  • Increased lump sum compensation payment for Workers with at least 11% permanent impairment or at least 15% permanent impairment for psychological injuries.
  • Increased death benefit lump sum amount from $524,000 to $750,000.
  • Increased maximum for funeral expenses from up to $9,000 to up to $15,000.
  • Injured Workers are now entitled to up to 12 months of weekly payments of compensation after reaching retiring age, whether they lodged their Claim before or after 1 October 2012.
