Just because you’re travelling on a budget doesn’t mean you have to skip travel insurance. In fact, travelling without insurance could cost you a lot more in the long run. Our Basic Travel Insurance is available to travellers under 75 at the time the Certificate of Insurance is issued.

It’s designed to cover you for what’s most important – your health and safety – with cover for overseas medical and hospital expenses1, overseas emergency assistance1 and personal liability cover2. See the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for all terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and applicable sub-limits that may apply.

COVID-19 benefits
We offer travel insurance options that include COVID-19 benefits for things like trip cancellation and overseas medical and hospital expenses if you contract COVID‑19during the period of cover.

  • Overseas Emergency Assistance1,4
    Allianz Global Assistance is available to help you with any overseas medical emergency. You can contact Allianz Global Assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Overseas Medical & Hospital Expenses1,4
    If you’re injured or become sick while overseas, we’ll reimburse the reasonable medical or hospital expenses you incur until you return to Australia, provided the relevant injury or sickness is covered by your policy.
  • Personal Liability2
    If you become legally liable to pay compensation for death or bodily injury to someone else – or physical loss or damage to someone else’s property – as a result of an accident that happens during your journey, we’ll cover you for:
  • The compensation (including legal costs) awarded against you
  • Any reasonable legal costs incurred by you for settling or defending a claim made against you, providing you have approval in writing from Allianz Global Assistance before incurring these costs

Optional extras or packs such as the Adventure Pack, Snow Pack, Cruise Pack, or Increased Item Limit Cover aren’t available under Basic Plan Travel Insurance.

Cover for pre-existing medical conditions isn’t available under a Basic Plan. If you know you’re pregnant at the time of buying your policy, your pregnancy is considered to be a pre-existing medical condition.

Our Basic Travel Insurance only provides cover for unforeseen illness and injury while overseas. This includes overseas emergency assistance, medical and hospital expenses, emergency dental expenses (where resulting from an injury or the sudden onset of pain) and repatriation4.

Note: there’s no cover for pre-existing medical conditions under our Basic Travel Insurance plan, and you can’t apply for pre-existing medical cover under this plan. If you want cover of your pre-existing medical condition/s, you’ll need to select a different plan and apply for cover. Refer to the Product Disclosure Statement for more details.

Allianz Basic Travel Insurance is designed to cover only the basics – overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, overseas emergency assistance and personal liability2.

Allianz Comprehensive Travel Insurance is designed to cover the above, plus events such as delays, cancellations, lost luggage and many other benefits subject to any terms, conditions, limits and exclusions as outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement.

Allianz Basic Travel Insurance is available to travellers aged under 75 years at the time the Certificate of Insurance is issued. If you’re 75 years or older, you can obtain cover by buying a Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy, subject to a pre-existing medical conditions assessment if applicable, and any other terms, limits, conditions and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement for full details.
Allianz Basic Travel Insurance is our cheapest travel insurance option for international travel. The cost of our Basic Travel Insurance depends on a number of factors, such as (but not limited to) where you’re travelling to, how long you’re travelling for and your age. You can get a quote online or over the phone to find out the cost of a Basic Travel Insurance policy specific to your trip.
Basic Travel Insurance doesn’t offer the option to buy additional cover such as our Snow Pack, Cruise Pack and Adventure Pack, or Increased Item Limits Cover. You’ll need to buy a Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy if you wish to buy additional cover for these.
We send out emails with promotions throughout the year, which may occasionally include promo codes for discounts on our Basic Travel Insurance policies.
  1. If you choose a plan that includes this benefit, you won’t have cover under the benefit if you’re travelling in Australia.
  2. Terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and applicable sub-limits apply. For full details and before making a decision, refer to the ‘Personal Liability’ section of the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
  3. Policy terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and applicable sub-limits apply to particular types of losses, premium refunds (full or partial) or claims. This product has a general exclusion, with limited exceptions, against epidemics and pandemics. That means we don’t cover claims that arise from, or are related to, an epidemic or pandemic.
  4. However, you’re covered under selected benefits in this product if, during your period of cover, you’re positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic, such as COVID-19. Refer to the PDS to see which benefits offer cover in the event you contract a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic, and the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions that apply.
