Allianz Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance covers your liability to pay compensation to anyone who’s injured if you, or other drivers of your car, cause an accident on the road. You must buy CTP Insurance before you can register your vehicle in SA. Our CTP insurance provides the following cover Australia-wide, 24 hours a day.

  • Your liability
  • In SA, CTP insurance generally covers your liability – and the liability of anyone who drives your vehicle – for injuries caused while driving your vehicle to passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, drivers of other vehicles and other road users.
  • Attached trailers
  • Injuries caused through the use of a trailer when attached to a registered vehicle are also covered.

  • Damage to vehicles or property
  • CTP insurance doesn’t cover damage to your vehicle, other vehicles or property. Visit Car Insurance if you’re looking for this type of cover.
  • At-fault driver
  • CTP insurance doesn’t compensate an injured driver that is entirely at fault. Although some cover may be available under the Lifetime Support Scheme regardless of fault for very serious injuries. Children under the age of 16 are covered for necessary and reasonable treatment, care and support for injuries that occurred in South Australia even if entirely at fault.

The extent of SA CTP cover is defined by law and in some circumstances may be excluded, such as driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The SA CTP Insurance Regulator sets a maximum and a minimum price that can be charged for CTP insurance for each type of vehicle. CTP insurers are free to set their prices anywhere within this range.

The maximum and minimum prices may vary from time to time, likely due to changes in economic factors and/or the cost of CTP claims across the industry. Your CTP premium for all insurers will be shown on your registration renewal notice.

To learn more about premiums and how they’re set, visit the SA CTP Insurance Regulator.

The CTP Regulator conducts claimant surveys at key stages of the claims process i.e. claim lodgement, liability decision, medical assessment and closure. Claimants are asked to give a rating from 0 to 100 on their overall experience with the insurer managing their claim.

The survey results are used to determine an overall average claimant service rating for each CTP Insurer. These ratings are displayed on registration renewal documents next to each approved insurer.

Find out more about the CTP Regulator claimant survey.

If you choose us as your CTP insurer, the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) sends us daily transaction files with all the relevant policy, vehicle registration and payment information. It’s then uploaded into our system to create a policy record for each vehicle.
