Holden was the second most popular car manufacturer in Australia during 2011 with 126,095 vehicles soldi. The Australian-based car manufacturer held a 12.5% share of the total car market last year, as shown by Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI)i statistics. 2011 saw the end of the Holden Commodore's fifteen-year winning streak as the top car modeli : the Commodore now sits in second place behind the Mazda3ii. Holden's Cruze model was the fifth most popular car bought last year.
In 2011, Holden featured in the top three of four FCAIiii market segments: Small Car, Large Car, Upper Large Car, and Pickup 4x2. Two models also topped FCAI segments, with the Holden Commodore in the Large Car category selling the most new cars in 2011 - over half (55.4%)iii , and the Holden Caprice in first place in the Upper Large Car segment - selling 83.9% of all cars in the segmentiii .
Holdens are popular Australian cars and models performed outstandingly in recent safety trials. ANCAP, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program, ran tests on variants of 3 Holden models in 2011 - two cars (the Cruze and Barina) and one SUV (the Capitiva)iv . All three were awarded a 5-star safety rating - the highest possible rating - and results confirm that these cars are very safe to drive. Latest models of the Holden Commodore were tested in 2010 and were also granted 5-stars.

Unfortunately, according to data obtained from the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council, Holdens are also favoured targets for car thieves. Across the country, Holden models sit in the top three of both short-term and profit motivated theft lists for NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australiav . In the financial year 2010-11, a total of 851 Holden Commodore VNs were stolen across Australia for short-term theftv - the second most stolen car model for this category. The Holden Commodore fares even worse in the profit-motivated thefts category for the same year - the Commodore VT was the most stolen and the VS came in thirdv.
